Applying for a new job is an exciting time, but we understand the process can be quite daunting. To give you a helping hand on your journey, we’ve outlined some of the key stages of the process so you know exactly what to expect.

Blue Octopus Recruitment

Johnnie Johnson Housing works in partnership with Blue Octopus Recruitment to make sure you have a great experience when you apply to join us. The Blue Octopus team work closely with Johnnie Johnson Housing colleagues, helping to advertise our vacancies, arrange interviews and ensure you have all the information you need at each stage of the process.

If you apply for any of our positions, it’s likely that you’ll hear from one of the friendly Blue Octopus team at some point. Rest assured, we’re all working towards the same goal – to match super candidates with their perfect career here at Johnnie Johnson Housing.

Online application

All our current vacancies can be found right here on the Johnnie Johnson Housing careers site. You can use the search tool to find jobs by keyword or by location – or both!

If you can’t find anything that’s quite right for you at the moment, you can sign up for vacancy alerts, which means we’ll let you know when something of interest does become available. Hopefully, though, there’ll a role that’s everything you’ve been looking for. If that’s the case, you’ll want to submit your application.

Making your application is a simple process carried out online, where you’ll be asked to fill out some personal details and answer some questions about your skills and experience. Complete these questions as fully as you can – CVs are a great tool, but we’re always keen to hear about you in more detail.

You’ll find information about Johnnie Johnson Housing online, including details of our mission and values. It’s a good idea to do some research before filling out your application as this should help inform some of your answers. Don’t forget to refer to the job advert too, as well as any job descriptions of person specifications that are available – it’ll be easier to sell yourself in all the right ways!

Before you click to submit your application, check through everything you’ve written to make sure everything’s accurate. Once you’re happy, click to submit and your details will then be passed along to the hiring manager. You’ll receive an email to confirm your application has been submitted successfully.

Shortlisting stage

We know you’ll be keen to hear about your application as soon as possible (that’s understandable!), and we’ll aim to keep you updated as often as we can. These things can sometimes take a little time however, so we’re grateful of your patience and, in turn, can assure you we’ll let you know the outcome either way.

When we’re nearing the end of advertising stages, we’ll start to look at shortlisting candidates who we feel are most suitable for the position. We’ll contact successful candidates via phone or email to arrange an interview – this could be an initial telephone interview or a face-to-face interview depending on the role (and sometimes even a video interview!). When you’re booked in, we’ll send you any information you need and will let you know about anything we’d like you to prepare or bring with you.

If you haven’t been successful, we’ll send you an email to let you know. While we’d love to be able to feedback on applications, we’re unfortunately unable to do so at this stage due to the level of applications we receive. We fully appreciate the time you’ve spent showing your interest and welcome any further applications you’d like to make for further roles.

Interview

The interview is our chance to get to know you and your chance to get to know us too.

We recommend you research Johnnie Johnson Housing beforehand and read about the vacancy you’ve applied for again to ensure the details are fresh in your mind. This will help you answer questions – and form your own!

We’ll chat about the role itself, your skills and your experience, giving you the opportunity to tell us why you’re a great match for the position. Nerves are natural, so don’t worry if you’re feeling a little tense. Our best advice? Talk clearly, give examples where you can and – importantly – be yourself. We want to see the real you!

You’ll have the opportunity to ask some questions of your own, so you might want to prepare some in advance. It’s just as important for you to make sure we’re right for you too.
